Allied Health
Our school is comprised of 10 unique departments that collectively offer more than 20 academic programs at the certificate, undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral level. This variety of programs prepares students to enter medical technology fields, to become practicing professionals, and to enhance clinical and scholarly skills once some work experience has been obtained. Allied health professionals are involved with the delivery of health or related services pertaining to the identification, evaluation, and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutritional services; rehabilitation and health systems management, among others.

Engineering
The KU School of Engineering can help you develop the technical expertise and the leadership skills you need to make a difference in the world. The KU School of Engineering offers 10 undergraduate degrees-- all accredited -- from a variety of disciplines. Students may choose from among 20 degree concentrations and dual degree programs.
In-State students | Out-of-State students
Students must submit a complete application with the $30 fee before the appropriate deadline and:
- Have a 3.0 or higher GPA and
- Rank in the top half of your high school class, and
- Have a minimum math ACT score of 22 (540 on math SAT). For architectural engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science, a minimum math ACT score of 28 (640 on math SAT). Meeting minimum requirements won't guarantee admission. Admission is competitive. Early application is encouraged.

Transfer students
Students must submit a complete application with the $30 fee before the appropriate deadline.
Transfer students are evaluated on a case-by-case basis but applicants must have an overall college GPA of at least a 2.5 and score 22 or higher on the ACT math test or have a "C" or better in Calculus I. Meeting minimum requirements won't guarantee admission.

Fine Arts
Established as an academic unit in 1891, the University of Kansas School of Fine Arts became one of the first national
institutions to offer professional degrees in the arts. Now the School provides a premiere arts education to more than
1600 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in the performing and visual arts, visual art education, music
therapy, and music education. The School of Fine Arts offers more than 40 undergraduate and graduate major programs within three academic departments: the Department of Art, the Department of Design, and the Department of Music and Dance.
In-State and Out of State Students

One of the minimum requirements below must be met:
- Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the Kansas qualified admission college-prep curriculum
- In State Students -- ACT score of 21 or *SAT score of 980 or higher.
Out of State Students -- ACT score of 24 or *SAT score of 1090
with a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Rank in the top one-third of the high school class.
*SAT combined score from Math and Critical Reading (verbal) sections only.
For all music majors, admission is also contingent upon a successful audition.
For all art and design majors, admission is also contingent upon successful essays and a portfolio review. Please see below.
Transfer students
Students must submit a complete application with the $30 fee before the appropriate deadline.
Transfer students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA from another college or university.

Essay and Portfolio Requirements -- Art and Design Applicants
In order to complete the application process and be eligible to seek a degree in an Art or Design area, you must first complete the following 3 essay questions.
- What has been your past experience(s) in the areas of Art & Design? (For example: This could include courses you’ve taken, achievements and awards you’ve received, etc.) 250 word maximum.
- Describe your professional aspirations and career goals in the areas of Art & Design. 250 word maximum.
- To what other educational institutions have you applied? What do you expect from your educational experience? 250 word maximum.
Your answers to these questions will be based on the following criteria:
- Appropriate course work and educational relevance
- Any achievements or awards received
- The clarity of your future goals and aspirations
- Focus of your overall responses
- Other relevant meaningful experiences
In addition to your online application, you are required to submit a portfolio of your work to include 10-20 images
(these can be slides or digital-jpeg, tif, or pdf formatted images only) that should include: images of drawings,
school or work related/based assignments, and independent images of any medium on any topic. These images could
include one 3D piece with several different views, a brochure/book with several pages/pictures, multiple views of
a portrait series, etc. Highest consideration will be given to those portfolios that utilize all 20 images,
presenting the best possible range of the student’s capabilities. It is up to the applicant to determine how to
successfully present themselves. An inventory sheet must be attached, including the applicant’s name, title of
each of the pieces, medium or program(s) used, size, date of completion, and a brief description of each of the
pieces. In the case of documented professional or group projects, applicants should indicate personal responsibilities. All slides/digital media must be labeled with pre-applied postage and handling for return.

Architecture
The School of Architecture and Urban Design admits freshmen to two accredited professional degree programs: the Bachelor of Architecture and the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering, which are both five-year programs. In addition, the School admits freshmen to the Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies, a four-year liberal arts degree program. The B.A. in Architectural Studies serves as a pre-professional degree for many students who wish to obtain a professionally accredited Master of Architecture degree.
In-State students
Students must submit a complete application with the $30 fee before the appropriate deadline and:
- Graduate in the top 25 percent of your high school class with a 3.0 or higher GPA, and
- Take 3 years of science, including a course in physics (recommended), and 3 year of math, including trigonometry, pre-calculus, or calculus (preferred),
- Have an ACT math score of at least 26 (600 on math SAT) or for architectural engineering, a score of at least 28 (640 on math SAT). Admission is competitive. Meeting minimum requirements won't guarantee admission.

Journalism and Mass Communications
New Freshmen listing a Journalism major on their application will be considered for direct admission into the School of Journalism if they have ACT scores of 33 in English and 30 composite and a 3.7 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.

The J-School prepares students for careers in advertising, corporate communications, integrated marketing
communications, news writing and editing, management and sales in traditional and emerging and converged
media. Critical and creative thinking abilities, combined with marketable skills, enable our graduates to
fulfill their career aspirations and to realize their potential as citizens in a restless world. The School
currently enrolls about 600 undergraduate majors and about 100 master's degree candidates.
Admission requirements
Students enter the J-School during their junior year or after they have completed 60 hours or more. Admission is competitive and students must complete the following:
- 3 English courses with the required GPA, see the undergraduate catalog for more information on English courses.
- Take MATH 105, 106, 111,115,121,141,365 or BIOL 570; COMS 130 or 230; humanities, social science, and economics courses; a natural science laboratory course, and JOUR 101. Completion of foreign language through second level is required for admission.

Business
The School of Business provides significant opportunities to suit talented, accomplished students varied needs. Restricted admissions and class sizes enable students to work closely with faculty and allow mentoring, scholarship, and independent study programs. The School also boasts some of the best international programs in the country and strong Centers of Excellence. The School offers two undergraduate majors Business and/or Accounting. The program prepares students for lifelong learning in a global, integrated economy.
Admission requirements
Students enter the school of business as a Junior (60 hours or more).
Students must take the prerequisite business and math courses and have a 2.5 GPA overall, at KU and in business and economics courses. Consult the School of Business Phillips Petroleum Student Advising Center, 206 Summerfield Hall.
Admission based on college GPA and ACT score. Admission is competitive.

Nursing
Founded as the Department of Nursing in 1906, the KU School of Nursing has exemplified its responsiveness to health care needs through its innovative education, nationally recognized research initiatives and professional activities. Located on the KU Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas, the KU School of Nursing offers baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degrees as well as statewide continuing education programs. The baccalaureate program, established in 1929, enrolls about 300 students. Registered nurses can complete a bachelor of science degree or enroll in an accelerated program leading to a master's degree.
Admission requirements
Students enter the school of Nursing during their junior year (62 hours or more). Admission is competitive and students must do the following:
- Have a 2.5 or higher GPA, and
- Take the prerequisite courses (see the Undergraduate Catalog for more information about prerequisite courses), and

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
The largest academic unit of the University, the College has more than 50 departments and programs and 1,200 faculty members and teaching assistants. About 14,000 students take courses in three divisions social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, or humanities; many prerequisite courses for other schools are offered by the College. Nearly half the bachelors degrees granted each year by the University are for majors in such arts and sciences as English, theater, biology, linguistics, physics, foreign languages, public administration, geology or Indigenous Nations studies. Students that have attended at least one college outside of the state of Kansas
Students must submit a complete application with the $30 fee before the appropriate deadline and:
Have at least 24 credit hours with a 2.5 or higher GPA from a community college or another regionally accredited college or university. If You Have Fewer Than 24 Credit Hours
Students transferring with fewer than 24 credit hours will be evaluated on a combination of their college GPAs and qualified admission standards (find out more about qualified admission standards). They will be required to submit college and high school transcripts and standardized test scores along with their application and $30 application fee.

Pharmacy
The program leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree requires 6 years of academic study. The two-year prepharmacy portion may be taken at any accredited two- or four-year college. Admission to KU as a freshman is available to those who meet the qualified admission standards as set by the Board of Regents. Students should apply for admission to the School of Pharmacy when they have completed or will have completed the 68 credit hours of the required prepharmacy courses prior to the fall semester of the year for which admission is sought. The required prepharmacy curriculum may be completed at accredited schools other than KU.

- Have a 2.5 or higher GPA, and

Education
Within the University, the School of Education serves Kansas, the nation and the world by (1) preparing individuals to be leaders and practitioners in education and related human service fields, (2) expanding and deepening understanding of education as a fundamental human endeavor, and (3) helping society define and respond to its educational responsibilities and challenges. There are over 600 undergraduate students in five programs of study (Teaching and Leadership, Special Education, and Psychology and Research in Education, Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences) in the School of Education.
Admission requirements
Students are admitted to the Department of Teaching and Leadership Teacher Education Program once a year. All application materials are due by the deadline in late January for admission for the next academic year. The following are minimum requirements for all students applying to the Department of Teaching and Leadership Education Program:
- Complete 45 credit hours by the time of application and must complete at least 50 hours by the time of admission to the School of Education. The cumulative GPA must be at least 2.75 (3.0 and higher is strongly encouraged), which includes all transfer hours (community college hours, dual enrollment hours, etc.).
- The following courses (37-39 hours) must be included (or the KU equivalents, for transfer students) among the 45 hours completed prior to the application deadline:
- ENGL 101 or exemption
- ENGL 102 or ENGL 105 (honors section)
- COMS 130 or 131 (honors section)
- A biological science course with a lab or a physical science course with a lab
- MATH 101, 104, or exemption and a course for which MATH 101 is a prerequisite
- PSYC 104 or 105 (honors section)
- SOC 130 or 131 (honors section) or ANTH 108 or 109 (honors section)
- HIST 128 or 130 (honors section) or HIST 129 or 131 (honors section)
<- GEOG 100 or 101 (honors section)
- One appreciation of cultural achievement course

Students should consult their program sheet for specific science and math requirements.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 in the courses listed under number 2. No grade lower than a C in English, Communication Studies, or Mathematics is acceptable.
- Complete and pass Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST).
- It is recommended that students show teaching potential as evidenced by recommendations from teachers in pre-education courses and/or successful experience with children and youth or teaching situations (either paid or volunteer).
- Other qualities considered include unique work or service experience, leadership potential, demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, and maturity.

Competitive Programs
The number of admissions is limited in the following: Elementary, Secondary History and Government, Middle English, and Secondary English. Please Note: Not all students who meet the minimum requirements are admitted. Transfer students are also subject to these enrollment limitations.
Open Programs
Admission to the following programs is non-competitive: Middle Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics, Middle Science, Secondary Science, and Foreign Language Education (PK-12, Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.) Please Note: Not all students who meet the minimum requirements are admitted. Students (including transfers) must also demonstrate a command of the subject matter area(s) they wish to teach.

Social Welfare
The School of Social Welfare provides the education and experience necessary for a career in social work. By helping shape students capacity for caring, the school prepares social workers to carry out the unique purposes of the profession, to develop human potential, to promote individual well-being, and to bring about a more just society. The program defines generalist practice as maintaining focus on the interface between systems (i.e., individual, family, groups, organizations, and communities). The School of Social Welfare typically enrolls approximately 550 students: 160 in the B.S.W. program, 375 in the masters program, and 30 in the Ph.D. program.
Admission requirements
Students enter the school of Social Welfare during their sophomore year (30 hours or more). Students must do the following:
- Have a 2.5 or higher GPA,
- Complete MATH 101, ENGL 101, and ENGL 102,
- Submit an application available through the Dean's Office (107 Twente Hall).
