This timeline is designed to help you understand the steps involved in the application process
for the University of Kansas.

| August • If you have not taken the ACT or SAT, register soon. Learn more: www.act.org | www.collegeboard.org • Begin searching for outside scholarship opportunities: www.scholarships.ku.edu. |
| September / October • Schedule a visit by registering online or calling (785) 864-3911. You can also register for a Senior Day. • Apply for admission and scholarships at KU. You can apply by paper application or online. • Stop by to see a KU representative at your high school or at a college fair in your surrounding area. Please speak to your counselor if you want to know if a KU representative will be visiting your high school. • Apply for student housing if you haven't already or e-mail housing at housing@ku.edu for a paper application. • Note: If you are interested in learning more about transfer credits or AP/IB credits, please click on the appropriate links on the transfer credit page. • KU's Family Weekend is September 9. |
| November • November 1 is the early notification date for scholarship consideration. If you have submitted a complete application for admission and scholarships by this date then you will be notified no later than the end of January on whether or not you received a KU scholarship. Note: If you have at least a 3.25 unweighted GPA with a 26 on the ACT (1170 SAT on Math and Critical Reading only) and you submit a complete application by Nov. 1, you will automatically receive at a minimum, a $1000 non-renewable scholarship. This amount could increase after your application is sent to the scholarship committee. • Apply for student housing if you haven't already or e-mail housing at housing@ku.edu for a paper application. • Search and apply for private scholarships. • Visit campus if you haven't already. |
| December • December 1: -- Final deadline to apply for scholarships. All supporting materials must be received or postmarked by this date. -- KU will be accepting the $200 nonrefundable enrollment deposit if you have been admitted. Details can be found at: www.admissions.ku.edu/deposit/. • Scholarship notices will be mailed by the end of January to students who completed their applications by the Nov. 1 early notification date. • Search and apply for private scholarships. • Apply for admission and scholarships if you haven't already. • Apply for student housing if you haven't already or e-mail housing at housing@ku.edu for a paper application. • Apply to the University Honors Program if interested. |
| January / February • To apply for federal financial assistance, obtain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from your high school counselor, college financial aid office, or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You are encouraged to apply by the priority date of March 1 and list the KU code, 001948. • Collect family W-2s and file for federal taxes. • Search and apply for private scholarships. • Apply for student housing if you haven't already or e-mail housing at housing@ku.edu for a paper application. • January 15 is the priority deadline to apply to the University Honors Program. • Schedule a campus visit to KU if you haven't already done so.. • If you plan to apply to the Freshman Summer Institute, the deadline is April 15. |
| March • Priority date for filing the FAFSA is March 1. • Apply for student housing if you haven't already or e-mail housing at housing@ku.edu for a paper application. • March 1 is the priority deadline to apply for scholarship halls. For more information, go to www.housing.ku.edu. • Apply to a learning community if you are interested. |
| April • Final deadline to apply for admission is April 1. • The deadline to apply to the Freshman Summer Institute is April 15. • Review financial aid and/or scholarship offers. • Check with your high school counselor to make sure all of your paperwork has been completed for KU. • Return housing contract and initial payment (only sent to you if you have mailed in your housing application). • Only one month left if you have not yet paid the $200 nonrefundable enrollment deposit. Details can be found at www.admissions.ku.edu/deposit. |
| May • May 1: -- You must pay the $200 nonrefundable enrollment deposit by this date if you plan to enroll at KU. Go to www.admissions.ku.edu/deposit for details. -- If you were awarded a KU scholarship and asked for a May 1 extension, be sure to accept your scholarship by this date if you plan to attend KU. -- Final deadline to apply to the University Honors Program. • May 2: -- You can register for new student orientation if you have paid the enrollment deposit. Go to www.orientation.ku.edu for details. • Submit your grade reports if you took Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes. • Graduate from high school. • Have your high school counselor send your final transcript to the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. |
| June/July • Attend summer orientation program to register for classes and learn about KU. • Room and roommate assignments are mailed to students who returned a housing contract. |
